WP1 Development of tools for reliable analysis of PFCs in diet, I: Analytical methods

Deliverables

D1-1 Description of four different specific methods for PFC determination for use in WP 2, 3, 4 and 5 (3 for different food items, i.e. fibre rich, protein and fat rich, as well as food composites, and one for beverages) (month 12).
D1-2 Problematic matrix constituents identified and description of suitable clean-up steps for these (month 24).
D1-3 Protocols (SOPs) for at least 4 fully validated methods for trace analysis of PFCs in food and beverages with emphasis on sensitivity and suitability for routine analysis (month 24).
D1-4 Description of methods for trace analysis of PFC precursors in food and beverages with emphasis on sensitivity (month 36).
D1-5 Results from screening food samples by new techniques (e.g.DART-MS, Orbitrap-MS) and separation of isomers of precursor compounds by GCxGC (month 30).

Milestones

M1-1 First reliable analysis of a suite of homologues of PFCs in food and beverage samples (month 24).
M1-2 First analysis of a multitude of phased-out and current-use PFC precursors in food and beverage samples (month 36).
M1-3 First application of DART-MS and GCxGC to fluorinated contaminants in food samples (month 30).
M1-4 Analysis of hot spot samples (month 30)
